Harokopio University of Athens is a public university dedicated to promoting research and learning in a small, well focused set of intellectual areas. The university, situated in the centre of Athens and close to the Unesco World Heritage Centre of the Acropolis, originates from an educational institution that was first established in 1929 and gained the status of University in 1990. It takes its name from the national benefactor Panagis Harokopos. The University’s excellent campus facilities houses four academic departments, the central administration, the library, the IT centre and student advisory services. The University operates four Departments (Home Economics and Ecology, Dietetics and Nutritional Science, Geography, and Informatics and Telematics) and six postgraduate programmes (M.Sc. Programmes). The education offered combines theoretical knowledge with laboratory and practical knowledge. More specifically, research findings are incorporated into academic knowledge.

The National Centre for Social research (EKKE) was established in 1959 under the auspices of UNESCO. It is the only research centre in Greece exclusively dedicated to social sciences. Over its fifty years of existence, the EKKE has created a research tradition in many areas. In the area of social geography the tradition originated in the 1960s with the studies carried out by French geographers and their collaborators on urbanisation and rural regions. In the area of social policy, the studies on poverty and income inequality date back to the days of Prof. Sakis Karayiorgas and his team. In the area of political sociology and electoral behaviour, the EKKE has conducted a number of significant and pioneering studies still referred to. The Centre’s contribution to research on criminal and deviant behaviour is also noteworthy. Last but not least,   anthropological studies initiated by the Centre’s first director, John Peristiany, remain a major part of ongoing research activities.

The Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy -ELIAMEP is an independent, non-profit, policy-oriented research and training institute, operating in Athens since 1988. Over the years it has developed into an influential think-tank, which fosters the study of foreign policy and international relations, and serves as a forum for the promotion of an informed public debate and as a point of reference for policymakers, experts and other professionals, requiring reliable and up-to-date information on issues related to the Foundation’s scope. Its work evolves around the innovative research projects it conducts in response to new and old questions and challenges, such as the development of European integration; migration; security; civic and human rights; climate change; regional issues concerning Southeastern Europe and Greece in particular, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean and the wider Middle East; the economy; intercultural dialogue; etc. The Foundation’s work is supported mainly through grants awarded to it by various national and international funding institutions, including the European Union, which has in the past entrusted ELIAMEP with a significant role in many high-profile projects, such as CLANDESTINO, IDEA and EMILIE in the field of migration and multiculturalism, JURISTRAS, IME and EUROREG in the field of European integration or IFP in the field of security and conflict resolution.
